The Channel Partner Playbook That Produces Revenue, Not Meetings

Most partnerships are theater

Companies love announcing partnerships. Logos go up, a press release goes out, and then nothing happens. After building partner programs across 140+ companies and four continents, I can tell you the gap is almost always between signing partners and activating them. Here’s a playbook that produces revenue instead of meetings.

1. Recruit for fit, not logos

The best partner is one whose customers already have the problem you solve and who has a reason to care about your success. A big-name partner with no incentive is worse than a smaller one who’s motivated.

2. Make the first dollar easy

Partners commit to what works. Design a simple, fast first win: one clear offer, one target segment, and the enablement to sell it without friction. Prove the motion before you scale it.

3. Enable like they’re your own reps

Give partners the same clarity you’d give an internal team: who to target, what to say, and what happens after the handoff. Vague enablement produces vague results.

4. Build a shared operating rhythm

Joint pipeline reviews, clear ownership, and accountability on both sides. Partnerships die from neglect, not from bad intentions. The rhythm keeps them alive.

5. Measure revenue, not activity

Meetings, MDF spend, and co-marketing are inputs. The only scoreboard that matters is sourced and influenced revenue. Track that from day one.
